A check-up is the appointment I value most, because it is where problems are found while they are still small. I examine your teeth, gums, bite and the soft tissues of your mouth, screen for oral cancer at every visit, and we take digital X-rays only when they add something, usually every one to two years.

My approach has always centred on prevention and on explaining what I see. The patients who keep to six-monthly checks and regular hygiene visits spend the least time in the chair over the years, and most of the root canals and extractions we do started as a small cavity or early gum inflammation that nobody had looked at.

How often should I come?

Every six months for most adults. I will suggest every three to four months if you have gum disease or a high decay risk, and children are often seen more frequently too.

Do I need X-rays every time?

No. We take them based on your risk and what I can see clinically, typically every one to two years for a healthy mouth. Digital X-rays use minimal radiation.

What happens if you find something?

I show you on the screen, explain the options in plain language, and we agree a plan and an estimate before anything is booked. Nothing is done on the day without your say-so.

For safety, a dental examination within the last 12 months is required before hygiene treatment.

How can I maintain my oral health between visits?

Brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste for 2 minutes, floss daily, use mouthwash if recommended, and maintain a healthy diet low in sugar.

What happens during an oral cancer screening?

A quick, painless examination included in every check-up. Looking for unusual lumps, patches, persistent sores, or changes in mouth, tongue, and throat.
