What Is Paediatric Dentistry?

Paediatric dentistry focuses on the oral health of children from infancy through their teenage years. Our child dentistry services provide age-appropriate dental care tailored to your child's unique needs, from their first tooth to their final adult tooth.

At Forever Dental and Skin, we understand that early dental experiences shape a child's attitude toward oral health for life. That's why we've created a welcoming, child-friendly environment where young patients feel safe, comfortable, and even excited about visiting the dentist.

Our experienced team combines gentle techniques with modern dental care to ensure your child receives the best possible treatment. We focus on prevention, education, and building positive relationships that encourage lifelong healthy dental habits.

YOUR DENTIST FOR THIS TREATMENT

Dr. Mary Talbot on Children's Dentistry

First-hand advice from the clinician who plans and provides this treatment at our Ashtead practice.

Children's dentistry is about building trust as much as treating teeth. A first visit with us is usually a ride in the chair, a count of the teeth and a sticker, so that if treatment is ever needed the child already knows the room and the people in it.

Prevention is the most useful thing I do for children, and explaining things in words they understand is the second. Good habits, sensible advice for parents about snacks and drinks, and catching problems early mean most children who see us regularly reach their teens without needing a filling.

“A calm first visit sets up a lifetime of easy dental care.”

— Dr. Mary Talbot, Associate Dentist

My recommendationBring your child along to your own check-up before their first appointment. Watching a parent in the chair without any fuss is the best preparation there is.

Questions patients ask me

When should my child first see a dentist?

By their first birthday, or when the first tooth appears, whichever comes first. The early visits are short and mostly about getting comfortable.

What if my child is anxious?

We go at their pace. Nothing happens without explaining it first in words they understand, and if all we manage on a visit is a look and a chat, that is still a good visit.

Are X-rays safe for children?

Yes. We use digital X-rays with very low radiation, only take them when necessary, and always use a protective apron.
