Implant-retained dentures are the answer for patients whose full denture will not stay still. Dr Pratt places two or four implants as anchors, and I make a denture that clips onto them so it stays firmly in place when you eat and talk, yet still comes out for cleaning.

Of everything we do for denture wearers, this gives the biggest improvement in quality of life. Being able to bite into an apple again, or speak without holding a denture in place with your tongue, is something patients tell us about for years afterwards. My part is making sure the denture fits the implants precisely and looks like your own teeth.

My recommendationIf you already wear a lower full denture and it moves, this is the treatment to ask about. Lower dentures are the hardest to keep stable and gain the most from implants.

Questions patients ask me

How many implants do I need?

Two in the lower jaw is often enough to transform stability; four gives even more support, especially in the upper jaw. Dr Pratt decides from your scan what your bone allows.

Can I still take the denture out?

Yes. It clips on and off so you can clean it and the implants thoroughly with a soft brush. If you would prefer a fixed option that stays in, ask about All-on-4.

How long does the process take?

Typically three to six months in total, including a healing period after the implants are placed before the final denture is fitted. You are not left without teeth in the meantime.
